Rhodes tourist season begins officially with the start of direct flights from around Europe on April 1st. The weather in spring is warm and sunny with great deals available on early flights, so come and see what the island has to offer.
This week people are busy getting their businesses ready for the season, here you’ll find a selection of those that are opening, from places to stay, things to do and some great tavernas and bars. Some are offering great discounts if you mention the blog, many we have enjoyed and some we are looking forward to getting to know better.
This is not all the business opening in April it’s the ones that got in contact with us or replied to our enquiries.
Places to stay
The island has a variety of places to stay from large hotels to small guest houses, boutique hotels and rooms to rent. There’s something to suit your budget and desires.
There are many places open in April these offer a mixture of locations and prices, what you won’t find here is all inclusives or package holidays. Locally run and owned these are the places that will give a glimpse of the real Greece and her hospitality.
Independent boutique apartments in a beautifully restored historic building. Located in the new town at 8, Amarantou str. Niochori, not far from the Casino, the building was the French Consulate during the 1800’s. All located inside Lindos village, this a collection of luxury villas beautifully decorated with amazing views. Thea 1, 2 and 3, Sokaki, Studio and Villa Meandros and Villa Anna Maria are open now. Things to do
Tourism on the island has concentrated on the beach and pool, but more businesses are beginning to appear that offer something a little different and are open a little earlier and later in the season.

In the hills near Laerma ride through the forests or in warmer weather along the beach. Elpida’s ranch gives you a chance to see a different side to the island. Experienced riders or complete novices can enjoy riding on one of the horses than Elipda and her husband look after so well. From one hour rides to full day trails and archery it’s a wonderful place to spend some time. Based in Rhodes Town, diving Kalithea and Ladiko and serving the north of the island, in Kolymbia and in Pefkos serving the south of the island. Offering scuba diving. Open now. Arranging dives on an individual basis in March and April, their full programme starts in May. In the south of the island from April 1st beginners, qualified divers and full training courses available from their instructor Lee O’Flynn. A new business starting this April located in Stegna, this is a holiday venue/destination, yoga centre and provider of numerous outdoor activities. For further information check out their website and follow them on Facebook.
With two premises, one on the main road in Archangelos the other in the town you’ll find this family run business. We know the oil is local because each winter we’ve seen the trucks, pick-ups and cars lining up to get their olives pressed. On Kiotari beach will be open from the 22nd April all day every day from 9am in front of the Lindos Imperial Hotel. Offering water sports including jet skis, ringos, windsurfing, sofas, banana, pedaloes, canoes, water skis and wake-boarding. On the beach in Ixia they offer windsurfing rental and beginner lessons. Opening the 1st of April, everyday from 09:00-20:00 as a bonus if you book through their website you can get a 15% discount on bookings in April and May and 10% off the rest of the season. In Rhodes town on Papalouka 49a, they offer Treatments & Tuition in Complementary Therapies. Open all year 10am – 2pm Monday – Thursday. Workshops run on Fridays. Training Sat & Sundays. On the beach in Stegna, experience stand up paddle tours, stand up paddle Yoga, rental and lessons. (free tranfer for all the tours to/from hotels). They open April 1st but are reservations only. Tavernas and Bars
This is only a very small selection of places open on Rhodes, you can always find somewhere with warm welcome on this island. These are just the ones open in April that contact us.
Throughout April when a cruise ship is in Rhodes most of the shops, bars and tavernas in the old town will open up. During the day the town of Lindos will see most shops opening up when the coaches arrive. In the hills villages will also open up for the trips that the cruise ship passengers taken.
The majority of business will open if there are enough people around, many will open from April 17th after Easter which is a huge celebration in Greece.
Weekends in the hills there are always tavernas open throughout winter and into spring. I know of many other places that could have been included here if there had been time to speak to them all. We’ll have to do another post of the best ones we know soon.
In Kandalou Street, Ixia , opposite Mira-Mare’s mini market. This is a family run restaurant that’s been going since 1988 run by George the chef , Maria and their daughter Kallia. With mainly Greek food it’s open all year round. They are also available for special occasions, events and weddings for up to 60 people. Just outside the village of Vati on the main road, this family run taverna offers great food in a wonderful setting. Traditional greek dishes are served at weekends in winter and daily from April 17th. Check out their latest review on TripAdvisor or follow them on Facebook.
On the beach in Lardos, specialising in seafood. This taverna is open weekends throughout winter and will be open daily from April 16th. On Easter day April 16th they will have a special sheep on the spit and a meze or a choice of fish menu, all for €10 per person. Throughout the season they will have a special every Saturday and Sunday either fish or meat maze for €13 per person Great service and always good food. Tucked away in a quiet square in the old town, this place is open all year serving pizza, pasta, salad and drinks. There’s live music and a always a friendly welcome. Check out their latest reviews on TripAdvisor and discover something a little different inside the medieval walls.
At the top of Lindos is open all year round.08.00am until 02.00am with an outdoor cafeteria bar and restaurant. The ice bar itself will be open from Easter weekend 16th April until 10th November 2017. In the village of Profilia, this a traditionally family run taverna is open at weekends in winter and every day from April 1st. Serving great traditional Greek food he is well known for fabulous slow cooked meat dishes.
