Join us on a wander around the medieval walled city of Rhodes and find some of the cats we discovered on our walk.
The island of Rhodes has lots of well known tourist spots but there’s also a lot that’s undiscovered by the main summer tourist crowds. Away from the main resorts there’s a very different island to be found. Beautiful places that haven’t changed for decades, where you’ll receive a warm welcome in local tavernas with real Greek food. Discover beaches where you won’t be falling over people to get to the clear blue waters. Find hidden camping spots and beautiful walks.
There’s a lot more to Lindos that the Acropolis and beautiful beaches. Every year on Father’s day the village holds a medieval festival. Jugglers, musicians, kings and queens parade through torchlit narrow alley ways. Enjoy a night of medieval entertainment.
4 years ago we checked in lots of suitcases and 3 cats at Doha airport and began our Greek adventure. We had no idea how long the adventure would last. We thought maybe a year and then we’d be moving on. But, 4 years later and one more house move, we’re still here.
The Folklore Museum of Lardos is a glimpse into local rural life before tourism came to the south of the island. Owner and curator Panagiotis Loukaras has spent years collecting and writing about the history of the local area.
If your looking for something a little different to do away from the beach then the Jungle Tour of Rhodes could be for you. Escape for the day and let Nikos Papas your guide take you to a very different side of the island.
I joined The English Speaking Association of Rhodes on a trip into the jungle near Archangelos. A fun day out that is suitable for all ages, but it’s a not a trip for everyone. You’ll need a sense of humour, a sense of adventure
Find out more about a greek island in winter complete with snow, snowmen and gluhwein as we take a drive around the mountains and down to the coast.
Tuesday September 27th is UN World Tourism day promoting responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism around the world.
If you want to escape the beach, or find somewhere off the beaten track to visit on Rhodes. This is as far from the crowds as you can get. Up the highest peak on Rhodes you’ll join the clouds and find an ancient Temple.
Looking to get away from the tourist trail and for a quiet spot for lunch we took an afternoon drive.
With no real plan in our heads we just headed south. Following the coast we drove through Gennadi. We went past the holiday villas that have sprung up along the main road towards the turning to Lahania.
