Doing 3 days of quotes has been a interesting way of looking at the world around us, particularly at the moment here in Greece.

For the last I wanted to turn to music. The lyrics of music are a powerful form of communication that we take for granted. Music has always been used to comment on the world around us and particularly the politics of the time.

Rather than go for an obvious band or song I’ve chosen something I think reflects the situation of the Greek people at the moment ‘Hopelessly Coping’ by Wilkinson

There are more decisions and more meetings on the horizon for the beginning of this week. We have no idea what will finally happen. Although an exit from the Euro is certainly appearing likely if you read the northern European media. But we do know that the Greek people are coping throughout this. For some there is a sense of hope for others it’s hopeless.

This also speaks to the politicians involved, stop running around and make a decision. This waiting is driving us crazy. We need to be able to move forward, the Greek people need to start building a better future. They can’t do anything until the decisions are made. Admit that austerity didn’t work, that a country can’t continue to ‘hopelessly cope’.

The young need to be able to start businesses and build careers, get married and have children, build homes and memories. They are being stopped by the powers that be in Europe. They are being stopped by the ECB and the IMF. They are lives are on hold.

Here are the lyrics:

Hopelessly Coping

Forget about your name
Your reputation
Put down your occupation
And your education
I heard what you said
About it being complicated
It ain't simple either way
Yes, a dream will make you pay

Somebody out here counting on you
To break through somehow
Somebody out here counting on you
To break through somehow

'Cause you don't even know it
Where are you going?
Or haven't you noticed
You're hopelessly coping?

Settle, settle, settle down
Instead of running, running 'round
Settle, settle, settle down
Instead of running, running 'round

Settle, settle, settle down
Instead of running, running 'round
Settle, down, settle

So why play it safe?
What you mean, "just in case?"
Well of course you might fail
But that's what it takes
Can't run from the doubts
Either way you're gonna struggle
Look in the mirror in awe
Tell yourself it ain't worth the trouble

Somebody out here counting on you
To break through somehow

And you don't even know it
Where are you going?
Or haven't you noticed
You're hopelessly coping?

And you don't even know it
Where are you going?
Or haven't you noticed
You're hopelessly coping?

Settle, settle, settle down
Instead of running, running 'round
Settle, settle, settle down
Instead of running, running 'round

Settle, settle, settle down
Instead of running, running 'round
Settle, down, settle

'Cause you don't even know it
Where are you going?
Or haven't you noticed
You're hopelessly coping?

Which song would you have chosen?

The Quote a Day comes with a few rules they are:

  1. Post 1 quote a day for 3 days (can be your own or from other sources).
  2. Nominate a blogger to participate per post.
  3. Thank the person who nominated you. Thank you Yvonne Payne and the challenge of keeping it Greek.

For this final post I’m going to nominate a friend of our Chris Watts over at Shark Infested Waters, author of Ex-Pat and a photographer, his view of life would be interesting seen through quotes if he accepts the challenge?

hopelessly waiting Greek cat

The three quotes were an interesting challenge I’m thinking of continuing it in some way, maybe a quote each week? What do you think?
